Misleading! Hon. Ewurabena Aubynn is not the youngest MP

At a swearing in of the newly elected MP for Ablekuma North, Hon. Ewurabena Aubynn on July 22, 2025, the Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin claimed that the Ablekuma North MP is the youngest MP in Parliament.

Speaker Bagbin’s claim was in the congratulatory and welcoming message to the newly elected MP on the floor of parliament.

Factcenta has verified this claim and presents the facts below.

Claim:‘‘Let us welcome our latest, our newest and our youngest member of parliament for Ablekuma North’’

Verdict: Misleading.

Explanation:

In determining whether or not Hon. Ewurabena Aubynn is the youngest member of parliament, we simply relied on the official publication of parliament on its website. The information on the parliament’s website indicates that  Hon. Ewurabena Aubynn was born on Saturday, 17th April, 1976.

our search also reveal that the Ketu North MP, Hon. Eric Edem Agbana is the youngest member of parliament of Ghana. He was born on Tuesday, 29th January, 1991.

Therefore, Speaker Bagbin’s claim is misleading.
